Teacher’s Notes

Liliane Taylor is a textile artist from Britain her work has been sold in different parts of the world including France, Germany and America. She currently runs workshops with schools and colleges demonstrating different strategies when working with textiles.I chose this as my final image I thought the topic could be finished by children creating their own reflective space in the classroom. I also think children would enjoy using a range of fabrics and media in order to produce something in this style. It demonstrates uniqueness and experimentation, a strategy children should be encouraged to adopt.

I would use this image to introduce textiles to children and also show that art is not just through painting. I would first ask the children how they think it has been made and we would discuss the different materials and patterns that can be seen. The activity that I would do using this image would be for children to create their own piece like this. They would be asked to think about their special place and then they would use a range of fabrics to make their own piece. The children’s work would then be put together to make a class quilt which could then be placed in a special place in the classroom where the children are encourage to reflect (e.g. in the book corner).
